WHO declared the outbreak of the new virus COVID-19 as a pandemic recently. Public health groups, like the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and WHO, keep monitoring and publishing updates about it through their websites. Let us have a look at what we can do to stay clear from coronavirus.
WHO and CDC have recommended the following precautions:
- Do not go for any big events or mass gatherings.
- Avoid having any close contact with sick people or the ones with symptoms.
- Maintain a social distance of about 6 feet, or 2 meters, especially if you have a higher risk of serious illness.
- Wash your hands frequently using soap and water for at least 20 seconds
- You can also use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content.
- While coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a disposable tissue. Throw away the tissue soon after use.
- Avoid traveling.
- Try not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth, especially if you haven’t washed your hands.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently and prioritize the ones most touched like doorknob etc.
- If you feel sick, call, and check with your doctor for medical advice.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
The common symptoms of COVID-19 are:
- Feeling tired
- Hard to breath (in severe cases)
Some people don’t even have any symptoms. Symptoms might appear two to 14 days after exposure.
What can you do if you feel you have COVID-19?
Contact your doctor or health care providers, and take the precautions below to prevent the spreading of the illness:
- Avoid going to work, school, and public areas, except to get medical care.
- Try not to take any public means of transportation.
- Wear a mask whenever you are in public or around other people.
- Isolate yourself from other members of your house.
- Isolate yourself from your pets, too, if you have any.
- If possible, try using a different bedroom and bathroom.
- Do not share your dishes, glasses, and other household items.
