Dental Exams and Check-Ups in Los Gatos, CA

Dentistry aims at helping patients sport beautiful smiles and also maintain their oral health at an optimal standard. Dental exams are highly essential in this regard as they help dentists evaluate the condition of the patients’ mouth and treat any infections or diseases that could upset their oral health.

Some of the standard dental exams that we conduct at our practice are as follows:

  • Oral cancer screening
  • Gum disease examination
  • Evaluating old restorations
  • Plaque and tartar screening

Along with these, we check for symptoms of oral infections, take x-rays, and also perform a deep dental cleaning to keep the teeth and gums in a good state of health.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer is by far the most severe oral condition, and over the years, it has claimed the lives of millions. The leading cause behind oral cancer is smoking and chewing tobacco, as it contains hundreds of carcinogens. If oral cancer is detected in the initial stages, it is easier to get it treated and cured. We conduct a salivary diagnosis, use an intraoral camera to examine the tissues visually, and a VELscope to extract tissues for the testing. If the presence of cancer is confirmed, further treatment will be recommended.

Gum Disease Examination

Gum diseases such as gingivitis and periodontitis can upset your oral health to a massive extent. Hence, we suggest you get the condition diagnosed at the early stages so that it can be treated accordingly. They can be treated by removing the decayed tissues, conducting a gum graft, and placing antibacterial medication, such as Arestin, near the infected tissues.

Evaluating Old Restorations

Ceramic restorations do last for several years if they are cared for well. But, if the restorations are too old, they could have worn out severely or maybe on the verge of falling off. If the restorations fall off, they could expose the sensitive region underneath. Hence, it is best to get such old and failing restorations replaced.

Importance Of Routine Check-Ups

Dentists recommend every one of their patients to visit their dental practice for a routine consultation. This allows dentists to keep a close eye on their oral health, check for any signs of infections, clean the teeth to remove deposits of plaque and tartar, and then suggest any medication if required. They will also advise you on the ways to care for your teeth and gums at home so that they stay in good shape.
