Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a safe and effective sedative agent. The patient inhales it through a small mask that fits over the nose and mixes up with oxygen. It can make you feel relaxed.
In order to make you comfortable during certain dental procedures, the dentist may offer to use laughing gas. It won’t put you to sleep, which means you will still be able to hear and respond to the requests or instructions the dentist has for you.
Have you got dental anxiety or excessive dental fear when it comes to going to the dentist? Then, laughing gas could be a great help for you.
What happens after inhaling laughing gas?
There are three effects of laughing gas:
- It helps in reducing dental anxiety and take away your fear.
- It kills pain, so the procedure will not hurt you anymore.
- You will feel all kinds of good as it creates euphoria.
- You may feel light-headed or have a tingling sensation in your arms and legs.
All this wears off soon after removing the mask.
